The photo which I have chosen to present is that of Tower Bridge in London.
Tower Bridge is situated across the River Thames in the heart of London. It was built between 1886 and 1894 and is one of the symbols of London. Its name is due to the fact that it is situated near the Tower of London.
Tower Bridge was the biggest and most sophisticated bascule bridge (also known as a 'drawbridge') of its time. It is world-famous because of its architecture and design, in typical Victorian Gothic style: it consists of two big towers, a solid suspension, an apron opening for the passage of the tallest boats, and a footbridge above, accessible by elevator or via the stairs, allowing pedestrians to cross while the drawbridge is opened for the passage of boats.
This photo was taken at the end of the day, at nightfall. Notice the colours of the sky turning from mauve to pink; maybe it is a summer evening. The magnificent sky and the lamp lights of the city are reflected in the River Thames. It is what makes the charm of this photo.
In the background, we can see the high rise buildings of central London.
I have chosen to show you this photo because I find this bridge beautiful and I particularly like the lightand colours in this picture.
