What shall we do? (CLICK HERE!)

Officially launched by the European Commission and the Spanish Presidency of the European Union on January 21st in Madrid, European Year 2010 will place poverty and social exclusion at the heart of the Union's agenda under the slogan: Stop poverty!

At the opening ceremony, the Commission President José Manuel Barroso said that the fight against poverty and social exclusion is taking place within the context of the crisis which will occupy the Union in coming months.

Every year since 1983, the EU has chosen a theme to make European citizens aware of an important issue affecting the whole continent.

29 countries (the 27 Member States of the European Union, plus Norway and Iceland) will take part in the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.

Each country has its own programme of activities for the Year.

France will largely decentralize activities; regional Prefects will be responsible for encouraging local participation.

How can we, members of the GEC, contribute to this European Year? Feedback please! Send your comments!

Lidwine should invite the Préfet to one of our picnics so that he can tell us what he plans to do!
