Who’s your favourite Sherlock Holmes ?

Hello everybody!
This is Bernard Wooley, and I’m just back from the flicks. I saw Sherlock Holmes by Guy Richie… in English! We were eight in the cinema; what luxury!
Sherlock Holmes was born on the 6th of January 1854, and for a 156 year old man we can say he looks gorgeous!
Did you know that Jude Law has already played in a Sherlock Holmes film? It was in 1987 in the fourth episode of the third season of the GRANADA TV version with the magnificent, unforgettable, and forever best (for me) Sherlock Holmes: Jeremy Brett. Over 20 years they adapted, in 41 TV episodes and 5 cinema films, all the Arthur Conan Doyle opus.
Jeremy Brett (1933-1995):

There have been innumerable actors who have played Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson...
Peter Cushing, famous for his portrayal of mad scientists, starred as the excentric detective in ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’.
Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce played in an early television series in a modern version with cars, telephones and so on.

Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce:

Guy Richie’s ‘Sherlock Holmes’ is a tribute to this fascinating character. Victorian London is there, with Saint Paul’s cathedral of course, and Tower Bridge which is not quite finished. The story takes place between 1886 and 1894 and perhaps, like me, you won’t be surprised to see Sweeney Todd at the corner of Fleet Street !
221b Baker Street is amazing in this film; I’d love to have a home like that! As a tribute to the Granada TV series, the street is filmed just like in the TV series.
You MUST go and see this brilliant movie! The new Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downer Jr) and Dr John Watson (Jude Law) are very good. It’s a new way to see Holmes and Watson, with more humour and even silly nicknames. Robert Downey is not Jeremy Brett but he does manage to fight just as well, like a true gentleman. Jude Law is an athletic Watson too and he’s in fact true to the Conan Doyle character.
A tribute, nothing less, and a great one at that!
