The history of Valentine's Day

Every 14th of February, lovers exchange gifts and flowers for St Valentine's Day. But do you really know what the origin of this tradition is ?
The history of Valentine's Day is not well known. It seems to date back to antiquity !
One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men — his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl. Before his death, he wrote her a letter which he signed "From your Valentine".
Valentine's Day is celebrated on the 14th February to commemorate the anniversary of his death!

Romantic? Paah!

The French are romantic... From foreigners’ point of view, the French are supremely romantic. But where is this romanticism?! How can you say, when you see them, that our French guys are romantic? How did they get such a reputation? In fact, they are likely to say: “Oh, drat! It’s Saint Valentine’s Day, I have to buy something..." How superficial can you get?!

Saint Valentine’s in France is, like so many other celebrations, simply too commercial: we offer something because we “have to” and not to do something lovely and romantic. Should we not focus on the true spirit of Saint Valentine’s that is: Love?!

I think we are forgetting the real meaning of this celebration. We must remember what the origin of Saint Valentine’s Day was: based on a pure vision of a deep love which we must perpetuate.

So, we have to keep in mind that Saint Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love of every tendency in the whole world - even in “Romantic” France - to celebrate true and deep love, the love which makes people better and the love which can hide for a day all the bad things in the world...

Saint Valentine’s day : why is it so commercial ?

Every year from February 1st, every body is looking for the best present for his sweetheart, or for the best place to go for the night. Hum... Not everybody! Others are actually wondering how they will be able to find a date in 2 weeks!
The day for lovers has in fact become one of the best days of the year for shopkeepers. Flowers, heart-shaped pillows, jewels... They make their best sales. And then, let’s think about all the meeting websites and newspapers ! So many lonely souls who want, or better, who NEED their second half !
In fact I don’t like this day! I don’t believe it means something special since couples can go out whenever they want during the whole year, and they have enough opportunities to celebrate their lovely relationship.

Wanted … a real MAN for St Valentine’s!

Nowadays it’s more and more difficult to find a great, handsome, bright guy… But I love challenges!!!
I am a weak woman who wants to find a man, a real man (age is of no consequence, even your health…). If you are the son of a president or a king (yes, I still dream of becoming a princess, your princess…) I am interested in meeting you!
Looks are not important for me, only the beauty of your bank account... Yes, I am not only smart and beautiful but also honest!
