Europavox is a major music festival which draws bands from Europe and beyond to the Auvergne.
We (Julie, Marie-Anne, Sylvain, Damien) went to Clermont-Ferrand on Friday 21st May to attend the Europavox festival.
The trip was organized by Mrs Nadine Pechuzal of Relais Europe Cantal, who took us to Clermont-Ferrand and back in her car and accompanied us all day.
We arrived in time for lunch.
We ate in a luxury kebab restaurant.
Then we went to Corum St Jean where we met “ambassadors” aged between 18 and 25 from nearly every member of the European Union (two from each country).
Our delegation represented young people from the Cantal.
We all listened to a conference/debate given by the president of Europavox, a Spanish music journalist, French journalists, and a member of the European Commission.
The main theme was the importance of Internet, especially Facebook and Myspace.
The president of Europavox and the Spanish journalist told us about how it was now easy for them to find new bands using the Internet.
Internet is also used by politicians. Barack Obama, it was said, won the elections because all his supporters made wide use of the Internet during his campaign.
We spoke about the fact that Estonia has already organized its national elections using the Internet and the Estonian girl spoke about her experience.
The ambassadors gave their points of view about the subject: they said what the real situation in their country was, for example few people have internet in Romania, and an Italian girl told us of the big influence of Facebook.
We found the conference most interesting.
After the conference, our delegation was interviewed by a TV crew.
We were asked why we where there, if we liked the conference, and what our views on the internet were.
In the evening we attended concerts by a band from Greenland, one by Rachid Taha and his musicians, and that given by Gaëtan Roussel, a French singer.
We really enjoyed this day; we learned many new things.
Thank you Mrs Péchuzal!
