Adaptation
This new cartoon of ‘A Christmas Carol’ is an adaptation of a Charles Dickens novel. It is not the first time Charles Dickens’ story is adapted for the cinema. Other Dickens stories, including ‘Oliver Twist’ and ‘David Copperfield’, have also been put onto the big screen. Dickens is one of the most important British writers of the 19th century whose books are still widely read today. They describe and condemn the terrible social conditions of the poor in Victorian England.
Synopsis
Among all the merchants of London, Ebenezer Scrooge is one of the wealthiest but also the meanest.
This lonely and insensitive old man lives only for his books of fairy tales. The death of his partner, Marley, leaves him indifferent, and he does not care about the poverty of his employee, Bob Cratchit.
The day which Scrooge hates the most is Christmas. In the cartoon he says: "If I could have my way, every idiot who goes about with "Merry Christmas" on his lips should be boiled in his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart!". The simple thought of all that happiness and gift-giving makes him go mad! Though, that year, Scrooge is going to live a Christmas he will never forget...
The story begins on Christmas Eve. On his way home, Scrooge starts to hallucinate. Marley's ghost visits him and announces that Scrooge will get yet more disturbing visits...
At first, Scrooge has to face the Spirit of Christmas past, which plunges him into his own memories, waking up some forgotten injuries and regrets... Will Scrooge learn to be good and generous?
